About Dahlia's Hope

To Know Us is to Know Faith

13-year-old Faith met a young man in her native hometown who promised her love and a family. Her own life at home was abusive and challenging, so his proposition was enticing. He courted her for several weeks and then suggested she come away with him. Once she complied, Faith realized that he was not who he initially said he was; she was quickly taken to a large city in the USA where she was forced into child trafficking. She was told that if she refused, her family would be killed.

For the next four years Faith was sold for sex, often more than 30 times a day. She was routinely beaten and forced to drink alcohol. The situation became so bad that she decided she needed to escape. During a rare moment of opportunity, she escaped to the police station where they rushed her to a hospital and connected her to a temporary safe house.

Faith’s road to recovery has been challenging. She was now a legal adult, and quickly realized there were limited, if any, resources for her outside of short-term immediate care. And, as a foreign citizen with no documents and the inability to speak English, she didn’t think there was much hope. Luckily, she was truly a survivor and kept fighting and searching for all the things she knew she needed.

In 2015 the U.S. State Department estimated that 1.2 million individuals were being trafficked here, domestically. In stark contrast, there are currently less than 1,000 spaces total, in aftercare programs in the United States, dedicated solely to the rehabilitation and transition of trafficking survivors. There is a desperate need for services for the hundreds of thousands of girls like Faith.

Faith is now independent and thriving, thanks to the support of individuals along the way who helped her to piece together the multiple missing resources that would propel her forward. Her journey has been long and difficult, and she wishes there would have been a place she could have gone to receive all of the pieces of transitional help that she desperately needed, in just one place. Dahlia’s Hope is a response to Faith’s wish.

Dahlia’s Hope provides holistic aftercare services to survivors of sex trafficking who are ready to create a new life. It is the first treatment facility of its kind for trafficking victims in Utah. Dahlia’s Hope incorporates a few locations in close proximity to each other, including: an education/training/treatment center, various therapy locations (including clinical therapy, recreational therapy, equine therapy, art therapy, animal therapy, and horticulture/garden therapy, to name a few), vocational training, life skills training, and residential housing. Our aftercare program also connects survivors to medical and dental services. The primary goal of the organization is to help transition survivors into independent living and self-reliance, meeting each survivor exactly where they are in their own journey.
